PALLET STABILIZATION WITH HOT MELT ADHESIVE
Meler integrates an adhesive application system to improve pallet stabilization on a water bottling line
The use of end-of-line adhesives is one of the strategies used by companies to minimize their carbon footprint. Not only does it help reduce the use of single-use plastics, but it also improves pallet stability and ensures proper distribution of goods. But not all customers dare to make changes to their manufacturing lines because of the dreaded line stoppages.

GAINING SAFETY BY UPGRADING THE PALLETIZING PROCESS
Joaquín Cebrián, maintenance manager at the Manantiales del Piedra water bottling plant, had a clear idea and contacted Meler to integrate an adhesive application system at the end of one of its 1.5L water bottling lines. The pallet that is formed at the end of the line has 4 heights and exceeds 250k, so the stretch wrapping must be resistant and ensure that the goods are stable during handling. With the incorporation of the adhesive in the palletizing, adhesion increases as the pallet gains height. Safety is also gained. The pallet behaves as a block and risks for operators are reduced.
Gabriel Laguardia, Meler’s sales manager in northern Spain, Meler’s sales manager in northern Spain, approached this project as a process upgrade and managed to integrate an efficient adhesive application system in record time.
“Technically, it is not a big investment; it is a process upgrade. Meler has simply adapted an installation using the customer’s criteria.”

REDUCING CARBON FOOTPRINT BY USING HOTMELT
Increased safety is not the only benefit. The use of adhesives at the end of the line also serves a dual purpose: economic and environmental. Normally, allets need around 500-600 grams of plastic to be shrink-wrapped, and using hotmelt can reduce savings by up to 50% according to Gabriel.
With the application of two small simultaneous spirorolls at four points on the bottle pack, excellent results have been achieved.

Joaquín says that this Meler’s new system has improved shipments, reduced errors, and the end customer is much more satisfied.
